  • 2005 Amarone della Valpolicella, Monte Sant'Urbano, DOCG, Speri

Rich, opulent and ripe with black cherry and chocolate aromas, this beautiful Amarone shows the best of Valpolicella winemaking tradition. The wine is smooth, dense and bold on the palate with lingering flavors of black spice and tobacco.

    Robert Parker

The 2005 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Vigneto Monte SantÆUrbano is one of the standouts in this difficult Amarone vintage. The wine possesses remarkable clarity and precision in a medium-bodied, focused style. Suggestions of amarena cherries, menthol, spices and minerals emerge with air, adding further complexity. The Monte SantÆUrbano is one of the more accessible Amarones in its medium-bodied, lithe structure, but the overall balance here is beyond question. This is a wonderful effort from Speri. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.

Shows lots of blackberry jam and fresh herbs on the nose. Full-bodied, round and fruity, with velvety tannins and a long finish. The balance and richness you look for in an Amarone.
