  • 2022 Meursault les Goutte d'Or, 1.Cru, Domaine Bouchard Père

Rich and deep with stacks of ripe stone fruit illuminated by a citrusy and mineral acidity that deftly counterbalances the full body. Long, precise finish.

Bursting with aromas of pear, peach and confit citrus mingled with freshly baked bread and hazelnuts, the 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Les Gouttes d'Or is medium to full-bodied, layered and satiny, with a vibrant but enveloping core of fruit, concluding with a saline finish. The 2022 vintage is another tour de force for Bouchard, as the accompanying tasting notes reflect. Technical director Frédéric Weber reported little in the way of hydric stress, with rapid ripening at the end of the season that saw some parcels accumulate 1.5% potential alcohol in as little as three days. Fortunately, the team hadn't performed any deleafing and were able to apply protective kaolin clay as sunblock for the leaves and fruit to ride out the heat wave. Harvest began on August 26, with anything picked after 11 a.m. left overnight in a cold room for processing the following day, and the harvesters stopping work at 2 p.m.

Lemon and lime in colour. The most reserved nose of these three (Bouchères, Porusots, Gouttes dÆOr), with a well-rounded fruit on the palate, then ripe apple with a touch of plum on the palate. Greater depth of fruit on the palate, something of a dried fruit character according to Frédéric Weber. The aforementioned trio differ in style but are very hard to separate in quality. Drink from 2029-2035.

    Vin Top 10

The 2022 Meursault Les Goutte d'Or 1er Cru shows a slight reduction on the nose. The palate is very focused and quite intense, good nervosité here, quite Charmes in style with a weighty, slightly honeyed finish that lingers in the mouth. This should age very well in bottle.

This wine's exuberant acidity has a laser-like grip on the palate, and it's not letting go of the lean, taut fruit. There are citrus peels, yellow peaches, white raspberries and oak toast. The profusion of scents and the integration of the palate will make this dangerously accessible early on. Channel your self-discipline for several years at the very least!

A slightly riper nose offers up a whiff of white peach, lemon zest and a plethora of floral elements. The delicious and concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel that is borderline creamy, which contrasts moderately with the youthfully austere and bitter citrus-inflected finish. This is also very good and a wine that should repay most of a decade of keeping.
