  • 2021 The Footbolt Shiraz, d'Arenberg, McLaren Vale

Klassisk australsk Shiraz med friskkværnet peber i duften, fedmefuld mørk frugt og lakrids i munden med noter af skovbund pakket ind silkebløde tanniner. For en vin i denne prisklasse bliver du positivt overrasket over dens kompleksitet. Det er en vin med rygrad, god syre, velintegreret eg og perfekt afstemte tanniner.
Vinen kan både drikkes nu og gemmes væk i kælderen de næste 5-10 år. Drikkes til grillmad og kraftige retter.

Good shiraz, strongly regional, aromatic and attractive. While I query the dryness of the tannins here, there is ample pleasure to be found behind a veneer of violets, purple pastilles, blue fruit, iodine and licorice. A little reduction creates tension without ever becoming too hard. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

This outstanding value for money Shiraz from McLaren Vale gets quite a deal of winemaking involvement, including the old-fashioned foot stomping part way through fermentation. ItÆs soft and immensely flavoursome with dark plummy blackberry nuances throughout. The use of basket presses contributes to its soft plush feel while the oak influence is carefully understated with a just a little spicy new oak lift.

Savory notes of sage and bay leaf are as forward on the nose as the plum and cherry notes. ThereÆs a lick of vanillin oak showing, too. The abundance of tangy fruit continues its journey in the mouth, lingering on the f inish amidst a powerful, well-placed frame of tannins. Drink now-2031. Old Bridge Cellars.

There's pinpoint precision to the tannins of this wine, gripping and fine-grained. The fruit doesn't quite fill them completely, but the wine may grow into its structure with time. Very upright and correct, built to cellar for a few years.
